Thirteenyearold Kaylee has a lot of friends — 532 actually if you count up her online friends And she spends a lot of time with them
But is it possible that Kaylee’s online friendships could be making her lonely That’s what some experts believe Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch they say However some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendships
Could this be true During your parents’ childhoods connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh Kids played Scrabble around a table not Words With Friends on their phones When friends missed each other they picked up the telephone Friends might even write letters to each other
Today most communication takes place online A typical teen sends 2000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen Much of this time is spent on social media platforms
In fact in many ways online communication can make friendships stronger There’s definitely a positive influence Kids can stay in constant contact which means they can share more of their feelings with each other says Katie Davis coauthor of The App Generation
Other experts however warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendships If we are constantly checking in with our virtual words we will have little time for our realworld friendships says Larry Rosen a professor at California State University Rosen also worries that today’s kids might mistake the friends on the social media for true friends in life However in tough times you don’t need someone to like your picture or share your blogs You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand You would like to talk face to face
24 What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A To summarize the text B To bring up a discussion
C To tell about true friends D To encourage online friendship
25 What does the underlined part in the flesh mean in Paragraph 3

Japanese researchers are genetically changing mosquitoes so that they become carriers of a vaccine (疫苗) that could vaccinate millions for free The researchers have already genetically changed a mosquito species so that its saliva (唾液) contains a protein that acts as a vaccine against leishmaniasis(利什曼病) a deadly disease that leads to terrible skin problems The team confirmed that mice bitten by the geneticallyengineered mosquito developed an antibody to the disease meaning they had built up immunity (免疫力)
You would be vaccinated without even noticing You wouldn’t need any drug and you wouldn’t need to show up at a fixed place for mass vaccinations said Shigeto Yoshida the associate professor who has led the research Repeated bites would only strengthen the immunity
Similarly the mosquitoes could be used to help treat malaria (疟疾) perhaps a decade from now said the malaria expert
Nearly one million people die each year from malaria most of them are children mainly in Africa and Asia according to the World Health Organization Now a problem is that no effective vaccine exists There is a treatment that works but it is beyond the reach of people who need to worry about food for tomorrow Yoshida said
However Yoshida expects that the geneticallyengineered mosquito will finally help wipe out the deadly disease in the developing world Technically speaking I believe it’s a matter of 10 years or so but it’s not clear whether society would accept it he said
Another problem is that the geneticallyengineered mosquito may still pick up and spread the infected blood of a person who has already caught malaria Yoshida’s team is hoping it can solve this problem by developing a mosquito species that kills the malaria virus inside its own body
28 How have scientists turned mosquitoes into carriers of a vaccine
A By changing their genes B By killing the virus in their bodies
C By letting them bite mice D By injecting vaccines into their bodies
29 Which of the following is NOT an advantage of using mosquitoes as vaccine carriers
    A It’s free of charge B It’s convenient
    C It’s more effective D It’s unnoticeable
30 What can we infer from the last two paragraphs
A People welcome the idea of using mosquitoes to treat malaria
B Mosquitoes carrying vaccines may still spread malaria
C It is not long before people will use mosquitoes to get rid of malaria
D A mosquito can kill the malaria virus inside its own body
31 The main purpose of the passage is to ______
A introduce a possible solution to malaria
B encourage people to use mosquitoes to fight against diseases
C show that Japan has very advanced technology
D call on people to help people suffering from malaria in Africa and Asia

We already know that salt can lead to heart disease But could it also affect our mind Scientists found that a highsalt diet caused cognitive impairments in mice and it could produce the same effect on humans
Costantino Iadecola director of the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research the Institute said they fed the mice eight to sixteen times their normal salt intake and then tested the mice After about three months the mice had a big change in their behavior Mice are very curious and they like to look for new things However the tested mice lost the ability to identify a normal object When the mice were put in their cage and asked to find a quiet spot they did not remember where the quiet spot was Then when the mice were building a nest which is something the mice do daily they were unable to do so The research suggested humans would experience a similar response
Studies have shown Australians eat around double the recommended amount of salt each day most of it coming from processed food Dr Ladecola said the estimated two teaspoons of salt the average Australian eats each day could affect the brain function in the long term However the decline might not be as obvious as in the mice who were given extremely high levels of salt But probably over years and perhaps decades—as opposed to a few months for the mouse—even lower levels of salt may have a terrible effect Dr ladecola said
High levels of salt cause serious immune changes in the organs in and around the stomach resulting in an almost autoimmune effect on the brain It is part of a growing body of evidence that we really are what we eat Bryce Vissel director of the Centre for Neuroscience at the University of Technology Sydney said Those changes in turn cause all sorts of responses in the body which over time certainly contribute to cognitive impairments
32 Which can describe the tested mice
A They remained quiet all day B They became smarter than ever
C They forgot some routine things D They were quick at finding objects
33 What do we know about Australians
A They ignore health advice B They have a highersalt diet
C They dislike processed food D They value their brain health
34 What does the last paragraph mainly focus on
A Studies carried out by Bryce Vissel
B Immune changes brought about by salt
C Effects of daily diets on human behaviors
D Links between salt intake and brain damage
35 What does the text suggest
A Brain health counts much B The body never tells a lie
C Lowsalt diet is to be advocated D Heart diseases can be prevented
    答案3235 CBDC

答案Good morning everybody It’s my honor to speak here and I am very glad to share my topic with you Then today I'd like to talk about whether students go to school with mobile phones Today more and more students go to school with mobile phones Many students are in favour of it Firstly it is easier for them to keep in touch with their parents and friends Secondly mobile phones will make their lives more colourful because students are under too much pressure
However some teachers and parents don't think so They believe it will make it hard for students to concentrate on their lessons and they often spend too much money on phone calls and sending messages
